6 Tips on How to Find a Good Dog Walker

Updated: Mar 10, 2022

It can be scary finding someone you can trust to care for your beloved fur baby. But there are times when we’re called away for work or commitments when having a dog walker you can trust is a huge help. Keep in mind the following tips when looking for someone to look after your canine.

References and Reviews

Referrals are a big part of the dog walking business so ask your friends, family or neighbors if they currently know or have used a dog walker they like. You can ask the dog walker if they have any client references or reviews you can check out.

Insurance

Reputable dog walkers will have insurance in case there is an accident or incident on your pet’s walk. Talk to your potential dog walker to see if they’re covered for liability.

First Aid and CPR Certification

Anything can happen while your pet is in the care of another person and knowing they are certified in pet first aid provides peace of mind that they’re able to offer help if needed.

Meet and Greet

Once you have settled on a potential candidate, be sure to meet with them so you can chat about your dog’s needs, their training and ensure both the walker and dog are comfortable with each other.

Test Walk

Do a test walk with the walker so you can explain how you would like your dog to be walked (if you have a preference) and observe their chemistry with your pet.

Know the Rules

Find out where the walker will be taking your dog and how long the walks will be. Learn if they provide treats or poop bags or if that is something you’ll need to provide.
